Fairchild 24s were produced from 1932 through 1946, evolving from a 95 hp model to examples with up to 220 hp engines installed. The 24 series was marketed to the personal or business flyer. The Fairchild 24 G was the 1937 offering of the 24 model series, and was available as a standard or a deluxe model. This example, N2088, was restored in 1993 and is more or less a hybrid of the two, with deluxe paint and interior but no flaps. The eyebrow wheel fairings were a common option to the full fairing seen on many 24s. One hundred 24 G's were manufactured; 32 remain in the FAA registry today.
Fairchild 24s saw service during WW II as liason aircraft under the US designation UC-61. The British knew them as the Argus. N2088 is on a list of 50 Fairchild 24s impressed into service as coastal patrol aircraft. Civilian pilots flew as far as 25 miles off the US coastline searching for enemy submarines. Some even had bomb racks—2088 doesn't.
